Privacy Notice

Who we are 

Our website address is: https://tynews.anywherestudio.ie. This website is administered by the Access and Outreach office in the Technological University Dublin, Rathdown House, Grangegorman Lower, Dublin 7 D07 H6K8. This is a members only website. 

What personal data we collect and why we collect it 

This website is built using []. By default does not collect any personal data about guests. 

We do not collect any personal data about the students who use the site. They use their school email address to register on the site and their First Name and Surname only. Both TU Dublin Access and Outreach Administrators and Administrators of the individual school the students are from, would be able to view the name of the students and their school email addresses.  

Students also have the option of using their initials and pseudonyms instead of their real names in which case only the administrator of the school site the students were from would be able to identify the student.  

Should a student decide to use Gravatar, an anonymised string created from a student’s email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if they are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.  

Noone outside of the school will be able to register on their site or the parent site. 

Only staff in the Access and Outreach office can register on the parent tynews.ie site.  

Comments 

Comments will not be permitted on any site. 

Media 

If students upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. 

Contact forms 

Should a contact form be used on the home page, the name, subject, message, email address, IP address of the user’s computer, date and time the message was left will be stored. 

Cookies 

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information. 

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. 

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. 

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day. 

Embedded content from other websites 

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. 

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. 

Analytics 

We may use third-party Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service. 

  • Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network. You can opt-out of having made your activity on the Service available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Who we share your data with 

We do not share personal data with anyone. 

How long we retain your data 

We store the registered usernames of students, teachers, and TU Dublin adminstrators in their user profile. Registered users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). TU Dublin website administrators can also see and edit that information. Each school administrator can view and edit the information of the students in their school. 

What rights you have over your data 

If you have an account on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. 

We generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and we are not legally required to continue to keep it. This includes your username, name and email address  

Where we send your data 

We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organisation or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.
